So exactly how do you make a living online, work from home, with opportunities on the Internet? Many people, after years of floundering with little or no results, like myself, or people that are just thinking about starting a business, have asked themselves the same question.

The answer is simply this, you need to choose or find a niche that suits you, use the experts to show you how and implement their techniques and strategies to be successful in that niche, be patient, and see it through to the end. I know for a fact that many of you have bought programs that sounded great, even promised you the moon, but in reality, like me, many of you have gotten sidetracked, and off we go on another path, never following any path to it's conclusion.

So how do we get sidetracked and unfocused, easy. I did a keyword search on Google's keyword search tool page, (just go to google and type in keyword tool), where you can enter keywords and find the stats for searches on Google. I entered the keywords "make money online" and I got results for that search, what people were searching for that month on Google. Some of the results were...

[make money online] [earn money online] [make money from home] [make money fast] [ways to make money] [easy ways to make money] [earn money online without investment] [ways to make money online] [make money blogging] [make money with google] [make money online free] [ways to make money fast] [make extra money] [make money quick] [make easy money online] [quick ways to make money]...etc.

Notice the words in red, those are the words that sidetrack us. Those are the words you see in emails you receive or read on web pages you visit for those great opportunities. And why do we do that, get distracted? Simply because we are not focused and we haven't committed to that niche that we have knowledge in or have a passion for. You will only be successful in something you truly believe in!!

Just Beginning Or Thinking About Starting An Online Business...

If you are going to start a business, you need to emulate what the successful people are doing, and more importantly, you need to know what you are talking about and gain your customers trust so that they want to do business with you. You don't do that by starting a business you know nothing about or have no interest in. You do that by finding a niche that suits your interests, your knowledge or passion. The biggest mistake first time online entrepreneurs make is trying to make a business out of what's trendy or popular instead of what they have a passion for.

First thing to do is to get focused and decide what type of business you want to start. (You can use affiliate marketing for any business.) Decide what you interests are, what you already know, or have a passion for, whether that's gardening, quilting, Internet marketing, automotive, travel, whatever. Don't get caught up in the make money fast, easy and free promotions littering the Internet. Do something you know and apply affiliate marketing to that. If you want to focus on affiliate programs, choose the programs that fit your interest, don't start another online mall. You can a have a web site or blog devoted to any topic and be successful, but as soon as you start adding programs that don't fit your topic you loose credibility. People do not want to do business with someone they perceive to have little or no credibility.

Set achievable goals for your business. Where do you want to be in a year, in five years, in twenty years. If there is something about your business you do not know set a goal of learning that and then move on to the next thing to learn.

Be realistic about your business. If you are working part time don't expect full time results. Nothing will happen overnight, give yourself ample time to build your business.

It'd True!! You can make money online, good money, but you need to come to grips with these three misconceptions...

MISCONCEPTION #1 - Starting a successful business online is free.

Let's be honest, the Internet is all about free. You can get a free FaceBook account, free downloads, free almost anything. But let's be realistic, free is free and that's about all it's worth. If you wanted to make money on YouTube for example you could go about making a video and even find many of thousands of products to promote. The problem is what do you promote and how do you do that so that you look like someone that people can trust. That's where the experts come in to play.

I don't know of any affiliate online that is earning a good income that has done it for free. If you know of anyone who is making a good living off the Internet without spending money I would like to know who it is and how they are doing it. You don't have to spend a lot of money but even if you have a web site you need to register a domain name and purchase web hosting, if you are going to be anywhere close to being legitimate. Even if you do it with email only you need to have a good autoresponder service, not a free one, to build a good list. I spend money on my business with domain names, hosting, scripts and programs I need to learn and grow my business. I don't spend a fortune but I do spend money. If you started a business in your town or city would expect to be able to do it for free? You have to take the same approach to an online business. You will, at some point and time, need to invest money in it!

Having said that, you can do most things online free, you can get free hosting, free email accounts, free products and services to promote, etc. The problem is that when you do it for free it looks exactly like that to your web site visitors. The other issue is that it takes a lot longer to realize any kind of money. I’ve tried that, and with very limited results. Once I realized that I needed to spend money to get the information and tools I needed I started doing much better. That’s just the way it is.

MISCONCEPTION #2 - Starting a successful business online is quick.

I don’t know what you idea of quick is for starting a business but for me, if I saw good results in six months or even a year I would be very happy. This is another misconception about the Internet…that everything should happen fast.

There is a learning curve to everything. There may be some businesses online that you can make some money in a short period of time, but you will have to invest money to do that. Whether it’s in building a mailing list fast, or advertising to get the message out to as many people as possible. If you venture into an online business that looks promising you will need to find out everything about that business in order to succeed.

You need to be realistic about your time frame for success. Give it time. This is why so many people get distracted and move from one opportunity to another. Their expectations are that things are not moving as quickly as they had hoped or were promised.

MISCONCEPTION #3 - Starting a successful business online is easy.

Although getting your business online may be fairly easy, running a successful business online is not easy.

Registering a domain name, finding web hosting for your business, and even designing a web site or using a blog service to publish your web site may be fairly easy to you, but becoming successful and making the kind of money you want takes effort, investment, research, testing, and more testing. If it was that easy to become successful everyone would be doing it, and everyone would be making money.

Does that mean that you can’t do it? No, it simply means you need to plan, set achievable goals, do your research, and learn what you need to learn to be the best in your chosen niche. This takes time, investment and commitment. But it can be done.

If you are willing to approach your online business as you would any other business then you have a chance. If you still think you can do it for free, quick and easy then good luck to you. If that happens let me know how you did that so we can all benefit.
